Windows Cannot Load the Locally Stored Profile

I have a Winxp pro laptop that is suddenly getting this error message at login. This pc is up to date on antivirus files but i'm not 100% sure on MS critical updates. Microsoft suggests creating a new user account but I want to know if i have any option to restore the old profile.

Probably only from Backup. If your Profile is corrupt set up a new user and see what happens when you copy your old profile to the new user.
