Windows cannot access the registry information at \\domain name

Hi all! On XP Pro workstations, I am receiving a userenv error that says:


Event id: 1043
Windows cannot access the registry information at \\domain name.com\sysvol\chemspec.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol. (Access is denied. ).

followed by

Event id: 1096
Windows cannot access the registry policy file, \\domain name.com\sysvol\chemspec.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol. (Access is denied. ).

And on Win 2000 machines, I receive:

Event id: 1000
Windows cannot access the registry information at \\domain name.com\sysvol\chemspec.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol with (5).

I have one "Default Domain Policy" that pushes proxy settings out to the users machines...Win 2000 DC's...

Any ideas?

Well, that's what I originally thought...But for authenticated users, the permission was apply group policy, not deny...That's why I thought it was so strange...The security settings were not set to deny, but the error stated it was...

bdoub - any luck with this issue. I'm getting the same error reported on my DC!

Any help is appreciated.

rblomquist, I could never figure this out...So I just did not apply the group policy to any of the clients and the error went away...If the policy is no longer being applied or the users are no longer trying to apply the policy, the error no longer exists...

Just create a new policy to replace the old one and then don't apply the one that is giving the error.
