Windows (ANSI) File Origin Import Default??

I import a lot of text files into Excel. Most of the time the file origin is already set to Windows(ANSI)when I go through the import process, but not always. Is there a way to make Excel always default to Windows(ANSI)? I'm using Excel 2003 but will soon be converting to 2007.

Thank you!

Hi, Joann.

This is a fairly old article but it explains certain things about what you are asking. I wouldn't change any registry settings, but would at least check out what it's set at. The article talks about 3.0 or 3.5. On your system it may be even 4.0.

Wish you luck in your pursuit

Thanks for the advice, xl. I see I have a 3.5 which is set at OEM and a 4.0 set at ANSI. That could be a clue! I will pursue this further with the IT peeps.
