HI, I got a system with Windows 7 and have downloaded and installed XP-mode in it; I can access this XP-Mode just fine from my Win 7 desktop, however, I'd like to boot right into this XP-Mode every time I power the system. Is this possible? Can any one give me some direction? Thanks.

no, XP mode is a Virtual machine that runs over Win7. It requires Win 7 to be run.

If you want to boot into XP, then you'll need to Install XP as a separate OS, either by wiping Windows 7, or by dual booting.

You also need a valid XP license along with an install CD to do this.

Thanks Vacunita

So you mean to tell me that I can't tweek Win7 to launch XP Mode after it, Win7, has loaded?

I guess you could place the Virtual Mode icon inside the start-up folder in Windows 7 so the virtual XP mode runs at start-up. You still need to load Windows 7 first though, so you wont be booting into windows XP. you;d be booting into windows 7, and automatically launching X mode at start-up.

If you want to start XP mode AFTER you log in to Win 7, you should just be able to copy the XP mode shortcut to your startup folder in the start menu.

Yes, Vacunita, that is what I'd like to do. Can you direct me into putting your idea into action? Not sure myself if I'll do it right and screw up this thing even worse.

I had the idea that an application installed for "XP mode" triggered it automatically if not already running. Surely they don't make users jump through the extra hoop of manually starting the XP mode VM?

Not quite. If you trigger an XP application it runs without triggering XP mode at all. It gets its XP like window, but its on the win 7 desktop, no actual XP mode window for it, and gets its icon on the win7 Taskbar.

In effect win7 virtualizes without needing to run the full XP mode window.

As fro moving the icon to the Startup folder, just right click on it, and click on copy, then open the Startup folder and right click inside and click on Paste.

Should not be more to it.

Though I haven't tried it myself. And I don;t have a win7 machine here handy at the moment.

I did as you said and now, upon power on, the system logs first into Win7 and with-in 3 seconds, it launches XP Mode. Perfect solution. Thanks Vacunita.

Glad I could help

XP mode "window?"

Do you mean the XP VM's own desktop? I guess I can see that then. Not sure why you'd normally want that open though.

Yeah, the XP desktop. Some just prefer to run the apps form in there.
