Hi i am new to this and i hope someone can help, i have a custom built windows 98SE with a M7Vig Pro mb and a celeron processor, i have reformatted the machine twice and after the kids get on it it crashes, i don't know what they are doing but i am getting the messages "protection error press any key to continue" when i do press a key i get this message " stack overflow, correct or reset stack configuration in "config.sys" how do i do this and what should i look for ? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Does the machine work ok after you do clean install? Or are there issues straight away? (you may have a hardware problem/incompatibility).

What do your kids do on the machine?

hi wolluf, yes the machine works fine after i do a reinstall and re download all the nessecary drivers and the device manager shows no conflicts, as to what the kids do i have no idea because i am usually at work when they are home so i have no idea what they are doing on there.
they say all they are doing is downloading pictures off a cd photo album but i think they are doing something else and they don't want to admit to it

thanks jimp56, i'll give that a try and let you know. thanks again to all

Windows '98 refuses to boot. Prompts to boot in safe mode, but won't. It justs returns to start up sequence. All remedies say to boot with start up disk. Is this the only way to recover? Could '98 have crashed one too many times?
