Can't get into 'Windows'.
Error Message shows
Whilst initialising device IOS: Error: An I/O subsystem driver failed to load. Either a file in the .\iosubsys subdirectory is corrupt or the system is low on memory.

Tried:
Boot Disk
Extracting files from Win 98 CD
Reloading Windows 98

Marbles-try-Start>Accesories>SystemTools>SystemInformation; go into software environment-on that window there is a "Tools" tab- in there is a series of programs that are designed to fix errors-you will need the CD that has your OS on it-try either of the following:SystemFileChecker{reccomended}, or RegistryChecker{use if you know what you are doing ONLY-you can REALLY screw things up in the registry}--GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks woodcarver for the suggestion, unfortunately I can't get into Windows at all, so am unable to try your idea out.

I did try looking through the directories on the CD but cannot find SystemFileChecker

Any clues as to whether there is anything I can do in DOS?
Cheers
Marbles

Goto start, run and type "SFC" without the quotes and will bring up the system file checker screen. If you still can't get into windows type "msconfig" under the general tab uncheck everything and put a dot in Diagnostic startup and restart computer.

In every case that I have seen the I/O subsystem problem, your only choice is to format and reinstall windows. Something you can try is if you can find another pc running windows 98, copy all of the files in the I/O subsystem folder on the C:\ drive and booting with a boot disk, copy all of the files over.
This may work, it may not.
If it doesn't, fdisk the drive deleting the partion and recreate it and format.

from what u already did if u cant get in windows fedto is correct.

the disk is the only remaining thing that cld be preventing boot. u cld try scandisk first. if not from dos then i think u can run it from cd.
