Windows 98 to Windows XP Pro

Hi,

I still can't beleive that someone is still has Win98. I am trying to help a friend to replace Win98 with Win XP pro.
What do I have to do, to make it a smooth and painless transition?

The reason why XP didn't recognize NIC because even it looked like it was seated all the way, still didn't work. When I looked closer, the side which is closer to the case was not all the way in. I had to bent the mounting bracket (not sure what it calls) a bit and tried again and YES, it worked.
