Somehow I have lost the speaker icom in the bottom tray so my speaker no longer works. How can I get this back?

For Win95/98, go to Control Panel->Multimedia. Under the first section of the first tab, check "Show Volume Control on Taskbar" and hit OK.

Try this...

1. In Control Panel, double-click Multimedia.

2. On the Audio tab, click the "Show volume control on the taskbar" check box to
select it.

3. Click OK.

or -

click Start and point to Programs, Accessories, and Entertainment, and then click Volume Control.

Tried that but this box is grayed out (not accessable.
How do I get rid of the graying?

Tried that (Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control). Nothing happened.

Check device manager to ensure the sound card is working properly (Control Panel->System). If you see any "flags" on anything in this list (i.e. X's or !), post back with what you found.

Sounds like the sound card has been disabled for some reason. What was the last thing you did to your pc? Have you upgraded or installed any software lately?

Go to Start>Run, and type msconfig, click the startup tab and check SystemTray.
