When Windows is booted, display is fine, but after some use the collapse/expand/close buttons on all windows become fuzzy and blotched and the same happens to the checkboxes and radio buttons displayed in dialog boxes. These items all become illegible. Suggestions, please?

I have the same problem on a windows 98, and in my case all the windows characters become illisible, but the characters inside a menu can still be read while the menu title is illisible (like blurred).

Norton is updated.

Any idea ?

Thanks,

@lex

Your monitors may be going out. Easy to find out if this is the case. After your PC is up and running and starts to exhibit this blurring problem, turn the monitor off with the power button on the monitor....leave the PC on. Wait 30 minutes and turn the monitor on. If the blurring is gone, then the monitor causes the blurring after it has been on for a while (heats up). If the blurring is still there with a cooled down monitor, then it is PC related. This is how monitors start to wear out just before they give up the ghost....not as sharp or bright as it used to be.

do a search for fuzzy icons here at tek-tip. I read this a month or two ago, just can't remember where. It might have been at google. good luck

Drcard,

It can't be the monitor because the icons themselves are still ok, but the text is blurred. IE on the desktop, the recycle bin shows properly, but you can't read the text anymore.
Same for the menu bars and windows titles.
But their content is ok.
