When I startup win98 everything starts up okay. But when I try to open a program such as MS Word and start working in that or any other programs, win98 closes out and automatically reboots. I can't work in any programs or surf the internet because it shuts down and reboots. Can someone help me with this problem?

Some more details please. Like, when did this start happening? Was it after you had added/removed hardware/software, had a major crash or a virus attack? Is it all apps cause a reboot? Has problem got progressively worse or did it just start like this? And what's the spec of your machine?

What happens if you run in safe mode?

Hi!

I just got the same problem and i found the solution:

The problem seem to be the virtual memory manager in Win 98.

This is what i did to find it:

- Try the pc in Safe Mode.... no problem.
- Try in normal mode...problem
- Remove the virtual memory manager (control panel\system\performance) and put it manually.
- Reboot the computer
- Reselect the virtual memory manager (or choose to leave it manually)
- Reboot the computer.

Problem solved....

Good Luck....
