I am running WIN98 on a P450, 64M RAM. Recently, on clicking the start menu, the system freezes, as well, using some drop down menus, the system freezes, I formatted the HD, re-installed Windows, and the problem still exists. CMOS has been re-set, and all un-necessary Hardware was removed via sys settings and the problem is still it is there System is not overclocked. Still occurs with a bare bones system.

Any Ideas, please reply.

Check the caching properties in BIOS.
If you've enabled BIOS caching, and the L2 cache is bad, this can happen. You need a good diagnostic like Sisoft Sandra.
If you've enabled video caching, and your video card is going bad, you can also get this.
The other thing to check is the RAM. Swap it for some known good RAM, and see if things reoccur.
How many things are loading on startup? Cheers,

I went into the BIOS and disabled the caching. As well disabled video caching. The RAM appears to be good and there is only 5 items loading on startup.

Could there be an electrical problem? The output voltages being monitored by the Hardware Monitor all show the voltages and temperatures within acceptable limits.

Is there also a possiblilty that when I re-installed WIN98, that the CAB files on the pc were corrupt??

The best way to check the hardware is to install ms office and open several instances of ms word or ms excel. If the there is a hardware error the system will hang immediatelly. Also physically check the clock speed of ur processor and the speed it is showing in the bios setup.it should match.
