Dear Friends,

I need help on the following problem:-

a) I have a HP-6426 with Windows 98 4.10.1998 (OEM supplied with Computer)
with "System Recovery" and also "Application Recovery" disks.

b) After running the computer, I have installed many other softwares

c) However, because of virus, I have by mistake removed the following files:-

wordpad.exe and also during installation of software mixed up with other versions of windows and got a different version of C:\Windows\System\imm32.dll file.

d) How can I recover these files without out re-formating the computer and install everything again? I cannot find these files in the HP Recover disk.

e) Can somebody send me via e-mail, the correct versions of these files so that I can put them on to the C:\windows\System directory?

I need your e-mail, and, did you mean C:\windows\write.exe? this is word pad if thats what you meant. [sig][/sig]

You can't find these files unless you have a programme that lets you look in cab files. Winzip does but most recovery CD's allow you to either format and reload all software OR recover missing or damaged files only without interfering with other applications and data. [sig][/sig]

Use your "Application Recovery" CD. It should allow you to restore missing or corrupted program files. If you have additional problems, contact HP. [sig]

<a href= plain black box
Don't sit down. It's time to dig another one.[/sig]

It wont work if he just copies my write.exe and imm32.dll? I have found them. [sig][/sig]

To Get WordPad using your OEM Disk Got to Start> Settings> Control Panel >Add Remove Software
With your CD in the drive, Choose the Windows Setup Tab of the Add/Remove Software panel [middle tab].
Highlight Accessories the click Details. If WordPad is checked, then uncheck it. This will remove it in total. If it is unchecked, then check it. It will reinstall. Once completed, then choose Restart. . It will re-install WordPad.

Most recovery disks i hsve seen sre a ghost image, if this is the case and you wish to recover a single a file you are best downloading gdisk from symentics site.
