Client = windows 98 se (ms dun 1.4 update)
Server = Windows NT4srv sp5 member server (windows share volumes)

My client connects to the server via our WAN using tcpip ,no problem...
but if you don't use the drive letter(mapping) for over 30 minutes it goes into a disconnect mode and will not reconnect , it just says ACCESS DENIED , It takes about 5 attempts to remap before it completes and works...

???
command issued is
NET USE i: \\10.10.10.1\pictures /yes

works first then will not reconnect ??

any advise ?

I ran into a similar problem on our network with win98 machines. The problem turned out to be with the Cisco Catalyst switch on the network using spanning tree protocol. If you are using a switch that has stp enabled and you don't need it, turn it off. Hope that helps!

Have you tried creating a batch file that pings the server over the wan connection every 15 minutes or so? Just throw it in the windows scheduler for multiple times a day, or use a 3rd party scheduler to occur every 15 minutes.

This might help.
