I need to install a scanner, but when I go into the Control Panel, there isn't a choice for Scanners? What gives?

Does your scanner have Software CD that came with it and how does it connect. Usually you just attach the scanner and install the software.

Scanner didn't come with software. With some new information, I am moving this scanner to the back burner. So it may take a while to get everything working.

Just a few minutes ago I found out that the scanner - a Fujitsu M3093E - requires a special video card. At full price the video card costs $2,000 - much more than I wanted to spend for this project. The scanner is high-speed and handles difficult images for OCR processing. I have another scanner a HP ScanJet 4P that did come with software. I will be using that scanner for the time being.

Most scanners can use the Kodak Imaging software that is loaded by Windows (start, programs, accessories). If the scanner isn't being seen by windows, drivers will have to be loaded or Plug and Prey may be turned off, in which case you can try the add/remove hardware wizard.

Hope this helps.

I read this thread hoping to find an answer to my problem. Win 98SE doesn't retain the scanner driver after installation. The device manager, universal serial bus controllers, Scanner Driver is shown as a "unknown device" with a yellow flag next to it. The callout and flag always returns after its removed from the DM. The "scanners and cameras" icon appear in the Control Panel but only list camera as being installed. Does anyone know how to install a Visioneer Paper Port Scanner model 7700 or have any suggestions?

Not too sure...Have you tried to load the software first then the device or visa versa?? Did you try to add the scanner thru the add/remove hardware and forcing the device?? See if there are any updated drivers or issues on their website.

Hope this helps, WMH

Yes I have done both. However when Windows is restarted several times it uninstalls itself. I have also updated the driver but the samething occurrs. Could the registry cleaners be responsible for this?

Note: Can Windows 98 SE handle both the camera and scanner?

Nope, it would probably work if It did! My scanner is new and has never worked. I don't have much luck with generic brands. I'm trying to find a win98 user that has a working copy of this model and brand. I have'nt had much luck. Thank for responding.

I'm almost sure this won't help, because the Visioneer I have is a different model (8820) and I'm not the brightest when it comes to tech support. My control panel has 2 icons.....scanners/cameras and just digital cameras. However neither shows anything as being a device. Having said that...my scanner and my digital camera both work fine. The Visioneer came with PaperPort 7.0 CD and was all I needed to get it up and running ( now the scanner itself quality-wise is another story) I am running Win 98. I also have about 4-5 different photo programs from Adobe to one leftover from old scanner..IPhoto.....and all recognize the camera and scanner when I do an Aquire.
