OK...
I'm trying to connect to a VPN...I have added the 'virtual private networking' from 'windows setup>>Communications'. And it shows as being installed in my Network under control panel. (I also installed the upgrade for DUN 1.4) and have uninstalled/reinstalled these things alot at this point...

Now whenever I make a connection under DUN and even though I select the Microsoft VPN Adapter (actually there is nothing else to select anymore) after I click finish I see a regular dun connection and my IP has '1-' in front of it as if it is trying to stick the area code on my ip to dial...(I checked telephony...I'm not setup to force long distance calles)

When I go to connect I get a message that dun is dialing then an error...

"The remote computer did not respond within a reasonable amount of time.
If you specified an IP address directly please check it. If connecting over a Modem please make sure the Modem connection is already running, and then try again."

As far as I can tell I'm following the directions correctly, pretty much everything I've found tells me to do exactly what I'm doing and I've not found much dealing with the problem I am having...

Any help would be apprieciated.

Error 678: There was not answer.

Resolution:
1) you are dialing the wrong number.
2) make sure you have good connection.
3) If using VPN, make sure the port 1723 and IP Protocol 47 (GRE) are opened.

Your missing the point...
It should not be dialing at all, our connection is a broadband cable modem 'always-on'...How do I get it to understand that all it should do is connect over the existing internet connection?
