Windows 98/2000 Server connection issue

I have a Windows 98 machine at work - AMD 700, 128mb, etc. That refuses to stay on the network. It is connecting to a Windows 2000 Server. The wierd thing is that even when it is not seeing our internal network, it can still access the internet. A reboot fixes it, but the user can't do this all the time and I am getting repremanded for not having it fixed. I have tried everything - the WINS settings are fine, DNS is fine, everything checks out great but this still happens on a sporadic basis.
If anyone can help - please do!!

OK, So, it's not dropping off the network because you're still able to get to the internet. How is this machine assigned IP , static or DHCP?

When you can't see the internal network, can you go to windows explorer and type in \\servername and see if it shows up? I've seen this problem, but by typing it in, it magically appears. Also check your lmhosts file and make sure that there's not a bad entry. Glen A. Johnson

It is statically assigned. And no - I cannot type in the path and see anything. It can't see any systems. But with a restart it magically finds itself then loses it again after a while. Really wierd.

When this is happening can the 98 box ping (by IP address) any other computers on the local network ?

if the computer can ping by IP address but has difficulty talking by \\NAME I would start by looking at either a Wins Server issue or possiable NetBios issue.

Have you removed the network components and reinstalled them on the 98 workstation?

You could also use NetWork Monitor to see NetBios traffic in and out from the 98 load it on the server and turn it on when you see this problem.
