Take a look at this article (below). It gets a little complex and in my experience a reload is often at the end of many hairs being pulled out and utter failure. The only other thing I would do first is to try to only install one update at a time and see if any of them will work. If successful, reboot and try another until the are all installed or you reach one that fails. Do that first, then: Link

It depends on what update it is too. As in, which KB number.
I had this issue once and it turned out that I needed to reinstall Office, not the entire OS.
That's not likely the reason for the updates failing. Those "bad" updates never failed to install, they just caused a problem after successful installation in some instances. Not for me.
