Windows 7 Professional x64 Windows Backup Error

When i go and do a File backup in Windows 7 Professional i get part way throught it and all of a sudden it loses connecti0on with the external drive i am backing up to and i get a 0x80070037 error in details and says backup is unsuccessful. I thought it was the drive itself so i swapped out and it still does it. Switche cables on external drive which is USB and same thing. Any help would be appriciated thanks

This forum (below) handles just backup problems and might be a good place to post and checkout too. I wonder whether if it could be hardware related though?

What type of file system is on the external drives, NTFS or one of the FAT type?

Are they self powered drives or do they take power from a USB connection on the computer? There is a limit on how much power can be taken via USB connections direct from a computer.

The external drive connected is usb and is self powered. I switched the hard drive same thing. I would hate to buy another incasement if that isn't the problem but i may have to. Btw the drive is NTFS. Thanks linney for the info. Will let you know what i find.

It's possible that the source drive is damaged, have you tried running the manufactures diagnostics on that drive?

Download Ultimate Boot CD and run your Hard drive test and run a memtest if that passes:

Thank you guys for all your help in this matter. Come to find out the drive itself is fine i ran a chkdsk on it. It was the encasement itself that was the problem. I find the are unreliable and short lived. Going to put the drive internal instead. Thanks for all your help guys. You have been super helpful.

Although chkdsk can be helpful in sorting out windows issues, and bad sectors, it is not a hard drive diagnostic routine. That said, I'm glad you found the culprit that was causing the issue.
