On a standalone Win2k machine, users who are members of the Guest or Users groups have absolutely no problem installing software on the machine....this is not what the description of the default policies implies....is there some way to have these policies enforced?

yea try control pannel and find the Administrative tools, it'll let you modify what some user groups can and cannot do. Thanks Karl...but I already took that route (dead end) there doesn't seem to be anyway to remove that particular right. There are plenty of other restrictions available there - things like "installing printer drivers" and "log on locally" but nothing to prevent anyone from installing whatever the heck they want - except disk quotas - but that only limits the space used, not what goes into that space.

hmm , typically that requires a 3rd party program, I Take it you are using Win2k pro, and not Server orAdvanced server, the server editions would be more strict on user priviliges.
