Hi All

I am trying to put together a W2k server (SP3) with the Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) connecting a VPN to asatellite provider. Situation is as follows, we have a dual bonded ISDN outbound with a fixed IP works, NATed addresses on the LAN all works just fine.

To get some more speed we have a one way satellite downlink. What we need to do is create a VPN to the satellite provider outbound on ISDN then they pipe the inbound data back down the Satellite link.

So far so good. If I initiate this from the network and dialup connections only, with RRAS turned off, everything is fine - works well, very quick. If I try it in RRAS all the connections appear to be made but nothing works and I loose all internet connectivity.

I have tried adding a second static route with a higher metric for the VPN but that didn't work either. Any bright ideas ? I feel I am missing a trick that is probably obvious if you have done it before.

Thanks
Chris

Hello Chris, did you get any response on this yet? I experience a similar problem

Hi Murph

Glad it's not just me, didn't think I could be the only one on the Planet with this problem. Otherwise no, I have not had any response at all. I continue to research the problem and recently downloaded a useful paper from the Winnetmag site which talks about setting VPNs from RRAS. This article is quite old and was done on NT RRAS though seems to me that while some of the setup processes are different the principle is the same.

Take a look at

I am planning to try this out next week when I am next able to get on the server so will let you know if it works. Otherwise if there are any IP Routing Guru's about need to try asking them about routing as my feeling is that is what my problem is.

What about you, you say you have a similar problem, what is your situation ?

Cheers
Chris
