Windows 2008 system state backup failure

Commvault version 8.0.0
Windows server 2008 Sp2

Backup fails to backup the system state. Several servers affected. Have tried to remove latest Ms patches with restarts in between.
Vss writers appear to be correct.

Used wbadmin to backup system state which fails with error below.

'Access Denied' is a bit of a strange one...what permissions has your user got? try opening cmd.exe as 'run as administrator' to run wbadmin

wbadmin was run with admin permissions. Commvault is part of the admin group and therfore has permissions to the systems.

Keep in mind that with Windows Server 2008 that even local administrators do not run with administrative rights normally.

"In Windows Server 2008, UAC and its Admin Approval Mode are enabled by default. When UAC is enabled, local administrator accounts run as standard user accounts. This means that when a member of the local Administrators group logs on, they run with their administrative privileges disabled. This is the case until they attempt to run an application or task that has an administrative token. When a member of the local Administrators group attempts to start such an application or task, they are prompted to consent to running the application as elevated"

Just being an admin on the box does not necessarily mean you are running something with admin rights. Hence Birky's comment to launch cmd.exe in "Run as administrator" mode to run wbadmin even if you are logged in as your Commvault account and that account is a member of the local admins group.
