Hei

We got new IBM server 3 moths ago, and yester day vi had to restart it (We just switched mouse). But now it will not start again. When I’m starting the server I se the “Starting windows 2003….” side, I get bluescreen for one second before it shuts down and try to restart again. I hope anyone can give me some help, I don’t know what to do, and I don’t think restore is a solution.
Is this hardware or software?

Please help me!

Hi

Obvious first test is to change the mouse back to the origonal, if it starts then ur mouse is causing the problem. The reason the system is restarting instantly is that when you set up 2003 the default option for a fatal error is dump the memory then reboot, this generally is a bad option in my opinion as the blue screen does gove some indication to what is causing the problem.

Also have you installed any software since the last reboot etc.

Hope this helps

Dave

Hei

Thank you affy1977 for trying.
I'm sorry to tell you it wasn't the mouse. And we have not installed any software since last reboot, so I don't think that's the problem.
Do you know how to stop this rebooting so I get a chance to read the bluescreen? Or even better, if I you have any idee what to do to stop the rebooting and get it to start normal.

Hi

You could try using the windows 2003 cd to boot from and when it asks, select recover windows 2003. Very risky but could be worthi it. also what is this server used for, is it a domain controller or just member of a domain. If its a member then it might be worth just installing 2003 over the top of the exisiting install. Your apps will need to be reinstalled but any user data will be preserved

Hope this helps

Dave

Hi

This server is a domain controller, and we use it together with a Citrix server. I have a large Oracle 9i database on this server (Hopefully we can restore it from the backup).
Looks like I have to trust Microsoft, I'll try to boot from the CD.

Thank you!

Start the server in safe mode, then disable all the services - this will allow the server to come up next time as normal. One by one start the services and note down which one causes this problem to happen again once restarted.

What the tpluskota said.
Haven't you tried last known good configuration, or using your emergency repair disk with CD reboot?
When in safe mode search for the memory.dmp file, copy toa floppy then view the content on another PC.
Take of any 3rd party hardare plus disconnect any accessories you don't need to rule them out.
Most servers have a hardware event log, sometimes this kind of error is logged there; use the manufacturers utility to view this.

I have been having similar problems. Booting into debugging mode seems to solve problems in the short-term.

I guess Microsoft is still Microsoft.
