Anyone got an idea as to whether or not Arcserve 2000 will work with Windows 2003?

Thanks!
Debi

I don't believe that ARCserve 2000 will work on Windows Server 2003; it doesn't even work on XP. ARCserve 9 will run on Windows Server 2003 once service pack 1 is released.

Hi Arcserve V9 is already certified to work with Win 2003, if You download a trial version of arcserve V9 and one fix to use open file agent , it will work fine .

Just testing Brightstor ArcServe 9 together with Disaster Recovery option and W2K3. It doesn't work even on a simple server with only an added RAID controller. I even have installed all service patches available (Build 2040).

I hope the disaster will not happen... as a test case, the software doesn't work as described and expected.

Does anybody have a clue?

Thanks!
Harald

Please provide DETAILS of the problem you are having with the DR process.

Where does it fail?
What error messages are you getting?
Are you testing on more than 1 box?
If so are the two boxes identical hardware wise? Arcserve DOES NOT support DR between different hardware configurations.

I'm testing on a simple box with an added RAID-controller.

After setting it up, I've completed a full backup of the machine, and afterwards, have created the machine specific disk for this machine.

Then I have destroyed the existing partitions. According to CA, I now should be able to recover the machine with the RAID driver diskette, WIN 2K3 CD, machine specific disk, and AS 9.01 CD through the Windows ASR process. The process suceeds to the point, where DRLaunch.exe is lauched, according to the logs. At that point, a DOS-window opens, then nothing else happens anymore. No other error messages in the logs or on the screen.

That's it!
Do you have any suggestions?

Regards,
Harald

There is new information:

I've installed the server again, same procedure, with two minimal changes:

1. Full definition of the caroot user account in Win2K3 accordingly to the CA procedure description - although the software seemed to work without it before.
2. Installation of the OFANT.SYS patch on top of AS9P4.

BIG SURPRISE: IT WORKS! [2thumbsup]

Does anybody have a clue, which of the two did the trick?

Best regards,
(Happy) Harald

None of them should cause disaster recovery to not work unless you have it skips some files during the backup, most probably the second one.
