We have a Volume Open License, Per Server, with about 75 users. We are installing an Exchange server and want to change our licensing to per seat (user). I believe we will then be able to use those licenses to access the Exchange server also. Is this true?
We have all 2000 and XP machines. Will we have to do anything to them when we change to per seat? And if so, what?
When we make the change, do we have to do anything to assign a particular license to a particular user? How does that work?
If a particular license is assigned to a particular user can we reassign the license to a new user if that user leaves?
Sorry for all the questions but I have yet to find a step-by-step to per user license installation. Or is that because it is a lot simplier that I think?

TIA for any help.

When you (buy) upgrade to per user you have to make that change on the servers as well. Those Windows Server User licenses do not grant you Exchange privelidges. You also need to purchase Exchange cals. The Windows Server cals only grant the user to access the Windows server Exchange is loaded on. And right, you can have another user use the cal, you just have to have a cal for each user connecting to the server.

**** Best bet since MS Server licensing is so tricky. I called this # (800) 426-9400 and asked for help with Server Licensing and they transfered me to a licening rep.

I don't know sir...I guess its broke.
