I am starting with a fresh install of the OS (win 2k adv server) and cannot get the mouse to install. It is a serial mouse. The mouse is on com1. It will not do any thing. I have tried the mouse on a differnt machine and it works in a PS2 plug. I am using an adapter to connect to the serial port.

Mew,

I have had the same problem in the past, It seems that win2k does not support Serial mice. Thats just the way it is.

OOPS My bad, I had the wrong kind of mouse. I was using a PS2 insted of a PS2/Serial mouse. Problem solved.

In case anyone else is interested:

Edit the boot.ini file. You will notice the switch '/fastdetect' there. Try removing that switch. I believe it bypasses the detection of serial mice.
