I recently upgraded from Windows Me to 2000, changing from FAT32 to NTFS along the way. After updating my drivers I thought I had made the switchover rather painlessly.

Well the system runs very slow most of the time, when I close a window it'll think for a while before making the window dissapear ect ect. When I run winamp the music actually slows down when I'm looking through windows or opening applications.

I tried fixing the problem by defragmenting the drive, but the problem persisted. Next I converted the drive back to FAT32 using partition magic 7.0. Still nothing. I've made sure DMA is on, but I've run out of ideas.

Thanks for any help

What is a Hardware configuration of your PC? I think that the problem in Hardware resources: RAM , HDD, CPU ...
RAM must be at least 128 Mb for example.
You can use Performance Monitor to monitor your system performance in realtime . You can use TaskManager for fast monitoring.

Have you defragged since you converted ? you may have changed cluster sizes going from FAT32 to NTFS and back again. Try using the Win2K Defragger - it's really nice! Fred Wagner

If you upgraded from ME to 2000 I woudl start by formatting/reinstalling 2000 fresh. BACK UP FIRST THOUGH!

Thanks for the help all, but I had a hunch that the motherboard drivers might be the problem, and I was right. The 4in1 drivers that I had previously downloaded were designed for windows 98.

Thanks for the help
