Hey,
We upgraded to a Windows 2000 server a while back and ever since we have been experiencing a file locking problem as described below:
It generally appears with HTML files and the use of Dreamweaver MX 2004. When I try to open the file through Dreamweaver I get the error message 'A sharing violation has occurred while accessing <some-network-path>.' These files have usually been recently accessed by a Mac computer on the network too, but not always. The only other two computers that would generally access these files are Windows XP Professional. There is a further Windows 2000 machine on the network, but that would generally not go near the files.
The only way that I can resolve this problem currently is by rebooting the Windows 2000 Server. However, eventually all the files will become locked again.
I have trawled the web with very little success. Most solutions blame Anti-Virus software running on the local machine, but we don't have any running on the server currently. In fact, no programs run directly off the File Server. I suppose there are 2 main suspects here, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 and the Macs.
Has anyone ever experienced similar problems, and if so, how did they go about resolving it?
Thanks very much for taking the time to read Any suggestions are very welcome as this is driving myself and my colleagues insane
Cheers,
Ebow
