The system keeps going back to POST after it starts up Windows. It doesn't take me to the logon screen, and keeps doing it over and over. Please, any HELP would be greatly appreciated!!!

We can't offer you anything solid with this much data that you provided. You need to give us more info about the system to at least give us something to go on with.

Have you tried booting up to safe mode? If so, what happened?

I have tried to boot in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, but it doesnt go past the 'starting windows screen',once it finishes starting windows 2000 it goes back to the beginnig.

echoing calvin2 - some history would be useful. Presumably it did work - when di the problem start, and had there been any likely causal events (like hardware/software changes, crash, virus....)

You could try running recovery console ( and then chkdsk.

Or, a repair reinstall may sort you out (but would still like to know any history) - boot from 2k install CD, choose new install (NOT repair). It should find existing instalation and offer repair (type R) - take this option. Leaves data, settings, apps intact, loses windows updates.

all right. The system keeps looping back to the screen when you turn your computer on (POST). When it's done starting Windows 2000, instead of taking you to the log in screen it restarts again, and again, the process goes on over and over, never ends.
I tried the installation cd, (doesn't work), when i change the boot sequence to detect the bootdisk, or the installation cd, it just hangs, with a blank screen, (CTRL+ALT+DEL won't restart it unless you unplug it). I have tried various bootdisks, the cmos jumper, (recovery jumper), the installation CD, but it just keeps looping

The POST doesn't give any errors at all? The signs that you give are symptoms of hardware failure/error and it should be detected during POST.

If the PC could get past POST, it could be a failing power supply... if you have any spare PSU try swapping it out... am not to sure about it but all I can suggest for now is to eliminate hardware failure...

start off with the PSU, then RAM, then Video/VGA Card... etc.

Calvin2: note that during POST, memory is checked for existance, but only a very small section is checked for errors.

Try with different RAM

You can create a 4 floppy boot disk set to start machine (for 2k install/repair/recovery console) if your CD not booting. Either download from or run makeboot or makebt32 from \bootdisk on the install CD.

And you still haven't given us any history as to when this started happening (even if its - 'it just started happening').
