I have an old laptop i want to reformat and reinstall windows 2000 pro on, that's also what's on it now. however, i forgot the old passwords/usernames, so i can't log onto the computer to start doing anything. how can one go about starting this computer anew. also, this laptop doesn't have a cd drive, it does have a network card, which is how i would install the software. is there anything i need to do to make sure that'll work? a boot disk or something.

Use a 98 bootdisk but make sure it has the network card's drivers on it.

I have a similar problem, but I do have a cd drive. How can one reformat the c: drive so I can start fresh with
a complete new install. I would do an install over the
old one but the last time I did that I got into more problems. My problems seem to stem from doing my upgrades to SP4. So I've given up and am going back to Win98. TNX

2k install CD has partitioning/formatting tools. You just need to boot machine from the CD, select new install and when you are presented with where to install you can delete existing, create/format new one. If you really want to put 98 back on (which I'd regard as minor insanity unless you use machine for games), make sure you choose fat32 filestore, and press the computers reset button when its finished formatting (to avoid it starting 2k installation). Then boot from 98 CD and install as normal.
