I have installed (local install) the Software for HP Surestore CD-Writer Plus, under Windows 2000, I was connencted to and login in to the server.
After the software was installed I was prompted me to restart.
Windows 2000 then re-started, but at the login screen when I Ctrl-Alt-delete to login the screen seems to lock with no control of the mouse and I am unable to login or go any further.

I have tried to repair Windows 2000 using the repair option's, checked that I am able to login to the Network from another machine (OK)

Do you have any suggestions ?, or know of similar problems.

just a quick suggestion -
try last known good from the boot up menu, this has saved my butt many times.
If this doesn't work, try the other boot up options, i.e. different safemodes, etc...
Also - it looks like there is a service on boot that is freezing your machine. Boot up with the repair disks, and go to the Repair Console. from there, use the help to figure out what services are loading on boot, and turn them off. this can also be done remotely, if the machine is not toally frozen, and is a little easier with a GUI interface.

Good Luck

I'm currently having a very similiar problem. I've noticed when I Restart Win2k, my machine comes up fine (auto login), but as soon as I hit any key the system is hung. No keyboard, no mouse, no nothin'! Then I have to kill power to my machine to recover. However, if I Shutdown instead of Restart and then manually turn my machine back on, it never hangs. I've noticed a few other people with this same problem, but haven't found what the cause is yet!
