Has any one encountered a problem logging on to windows where the username is already typed in and the cursor is in the password box, but not blinking so you cannot enter your password? Also, instead of the mouse pointer, you see the hourglass. You cannot bring up the Task Manager and the only thing you can do is shut the computer off and restart.

I've seen it tons of times. In some cases, the login screen will come back to life after a minute or two and in other cases it requires a reboot. Typically, this is because of a program set to startup from the boot and, depending orams and n the timing of the particular boot, it fails (taking the system down with it). In this instance, you need to remove all your startup programs and then put them back in, one at a time, until you find the offending one.

Course, it could also be a virus but you'd usually have other symptoms as well. Hope this helps. Michael
