The Software Installation and Maintenance feature of Windows 2000 makes installing applications on Windows 2000 Professional computers much easier. Certain files can be used both to do the installation of an application as well as customization of an application through a transform. Which of the following types of files is not used in conjunction with the Software Installation and Maintenance feature in Windows 2000?

A. .zap

B. .map

C. .mst

D. .msi

.ZAP FileWrangler Compressed File (only used in beta)
MS Windows Software Installation Settings

.MAP Image
Server-side Image Map (allows one to map link
locations in a Web graphic)
Color Palette
AccView Network Map
Atlas MapMaker Map
DIV Game Studio Map [XnView]
Fenix Map [XnView]
Ingres Termcap Mapping File
Poser 3D Map File
WorldCraft Quake/Half-Life Game Level File
Blood Game File Map
Duke Nukem Game Level Data File
...and many more games (too many to list)
Linker Map
Micrografx Picture Publisher Format Data
PROGNOSIS Map Document File

.MST Minispecification
DATAIR Pension System Master File
Windows SDK Setup Transform Script (contains mods
to apply to package during installation)

.MSI Windows Installer File (associates components with
features and contains installation control info)

If this is a test, I'd have to go with B. .map. My source:

Guest,

If this is an Exam question, you might benefit MORE from trying a little something on your own:

1.) Download the ORKTOOLS.exe from the Microsoft Office Resource Kit website.
2.) Setup MS Office 2000 using the following:

"setup.exe /a"

This let's you setup office on a "Network" share.
3.) Now, using the "Custom Installation Wizard" that comes with ORKTOOLS, you can create custom transforms and such.

There is simply no substitute for trying these things yourself - having other people give you answers to exam questions will not help you UNDERSTAND the material, even if you do pass...just my 2 cents worth. Let Me Know!
