Morning All,

I am experiencing a problem with around 5% of PCs on my network whereby when booting win2k the message Applying Local Security Policy is displayed for maybe 2-3 mins before the system moves onto the next stage of the boot process and then moves onto the logon screen.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can speed up this process.

Regards

Well 1st of all have you applied any security policies to the machines?

Yes I have applied security policies, but it really only takes this long to load up w2k clients on a handfull of machines......

For the "slow" clients, see if you can use Safe Mode and determine if there is a DHCP issue.

For XP clients, and it has some bearing on Win2k clients, the FAQ here can possibly help: faq779-4017

For you Win2k clients to pause exactly at this point is very strongly indicative of a DHCP/DNS issue.

This may sound dumb but I had the same problem at my job
site which has over 15000 PC's running Win2k Pro...
After we installed the SP4 update a bunch of the machines
had the problem of taking 25-30 minutes to get past the
'Applying Security Policy' dialog box and here's how I
fixed it...

Boot to Safe Mode
Log in as admin.
Reboot machine.

Thats it. When the machines rebooted normally there was no
more 25-30 minute wait while it applied the security
policies. I know it sounds too simple to be true but
it worked on just about every machine we tried it on.
