Hi All,

FWIW, Windows 10 decided to update itself a week ago and my Sidekick no longer would boot up. Eventually, I did a complete uninstall and reinstall, and got SK working again. But, when I tried copying over my data, something went awry again. So, several more deletions/re-installations later, and quite a lot more caution as to which old files I copied back, things seem to be working again. I have access to my calendar, cards, and notes. I have no idea what Windows didn't like, but I've read about many other complaints on the recent Win 10 update.

For the record, I now seem to be on Version 1803/build 17134.407.

Anyway, the point is, just because SK stops working, you might be able to get it back again. For my money it's still worth the effort.

Well, I spoke too soon. For one day, I was good to go, but then SK wouldn't load again. I'm not sure if Windoz did something in the interim or not. I suspect it did because my "Free Cell" stats had been set back to zero.

Again today, Windoz did an update while I was off at dinner. I tried re-installing SK over the installation, and that didn't work. But, when I uninstalled and then re-installed, I got SK working again. I'll be interested to see what happens tomorrow.

I'm guessing there's some kind of sketchy driver involved, but I've no idea what it could be. It doesn't help that Windoz 10 is going through a difficult time at the moment.

I should also point out that I uninstall with iobit uninstaller. The built-in Windoz uninstaller has never worked properly in the 25+ years of Windoz existence. It always leaves crap behind which must be deleted. For the most part, iobit uninstaller removes the crap as well. So good not to have to edit the registry file to make things work.

Piper: I have been a long long time user. James 33 has always been my mentor.

I get around most of the SK 88 problems with W10 (home and pro) by running Sidekick as Administrator.

Right click the sk.exe file and select "Run as Administrator". Every time I run SK now, Windows asks me for permission. Other than that, though, it seems to work. Occasionally it hangs up on loading. Not sure what is conflicting but a reboot usually clears that up for me.

Hope this may help.

Thanks, @Rich224422 for your input. I'm pretty sure I've been running SK 98 as an admin all this time. I certainly have to "bless" something by pushing a button each time I boot up.

I should have updated this thread sooner. I did continue having some issues through December and into the first part of January. I've become quite good at scrubbing my SK 98 installations and then re-installing it all.

But, since the middle of January, everything has been good. SK has weathered several Win10 updates in that time and continues to purr along like the champ it's always been.
