I recently upgraded an 8.1 pro to windows 10 pro but are incountering some problems.
When I look at the network places, the deveice isn't seeing most other network clients (only other windows 10 deveices and 1 or 2 windows 7 deveices) no printers, no servers or most of the other network clients,
but the network shares are connected and working.
I can ping to the other deveices but they are not visible in my network.
through the umd path I can connect to the deveices that are not visible in network places.
also It's not possible to connect to a db running on 1 of the computers.

Does anyone have some suggestions ?

Disabbeling the antivirus of firewall didn't help.

Good luck on that Wumpus Hunt trying to figure out where they hid all of the relevant network settings this time.

I get so tired of Microsoft rearranging the deck chairs and trying to dumb things down and making one mess after another. Windows 10 is a real PITA to administer, and its big bang updates don't help any either.

It was really hard to find. I went into google and typed

network settings windows 10

and got hundreds of links on where to go.

As you say, this is a common scenario and Win10 forums are full of users with similar and related issues.

Re-installing the IPv4 protocol seems to cure many ills.

Load the *elevated command prompt and enter netsh int ipv4 install and restart your computer.

(* Click the Start button. In the Search box, type command prompt. In the list of results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.)

Best of luck.
