I used Window Explore's Search to look for files containing certain text. I know there is at least one file has the text, but window explore search returned no result. Does anyone know if this is a known Microsoft issue? If it is, where can I find the fix? Thanks.

Did you use the second field under the all files an folders option? This runs the search for words inside the document.

As Sleepsalot mentioned, make sure you're entering the text you're searching for in the 2nd dialog box & be sure you're searching in the right drive.
Cheers, Bob

Check the "advanced options" in the search page, and make sure "Search System Folders", "Search hidden files and folders", and "Search subfolders" are checked.

Also, if searching for a phrase, do not put the phrase in quotes. And, you can try using a smaller string in the search text, see if that gets any hits.

Using the "A Word or Phrase in the File" Search Criterion May Not Work

Content Search Does Not Search All File Types for the Specified String

Navigate to and find this file and fix xp_persisthandler.vbs - Enable XP's "Search" to find text in files. It is reached via Win XP Fixes/ Win XP Search Problems/ Can't find files containing text.

Thanks everyone. I will try the fixes Linney mentioned.
