Wince 5 only able to 1usb

Hi,
Total newbie here and my first post so please forgive my naive questions.
I have a Chinese Ddin unit running Wince5, I have done a modification to the board to add a USB cable and a hub but it only see one USB connection, is there anything I could try/ test to help it see more than one USB connection?

Is the hub powered? the internal usb may not be supplying the power needed. Also is the usb port a host or slave?

I've also tried a powered hub and still no luck.
The usb port is a host.
I've also tried a 1.1 usb as opposed to a 2.0 and no luck there either.
