hello, my computer here is a p3-800, and is fairly quick and snappy. however, sometime in the last couple of months, it's gotten very slow at one particular task. if I right-click and choose properities for a file, it often takes upwards of an entire minute for the properties dialogue to show. During this time, I can use my computer, in fact I got through almost half of this post (opening up explorer, typing in tek-tips, etc. etc.) before my file properities showed up.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'll try to get some more accurate data for you too.

_seems_ to be dependant on file size. small text file = instant, whereas 100MB zip file = 1 minute.

actually scratch that. I just got the properties of a 450MB zip file instantly, so it appears to just be some files. sorry for starting this unprepared...

Method 1
Turn off the transition effects for menus and ToolTips. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Display, and then click the Appearance tab.
On the Appearance tab, click Effects.
In the Effects dialog box, click to clear the Use the following transition effect for menus and tooltips check box, and then click OK two times.
Method 2
Click the folder or file that you want (select it) before you right-click it to display the shortcut menu.

that's for XP and 2003.
