I bought an epox motherboard, an amd k6-2 500 processor, 64MB memory, and a 10GB hard drive, running win98 verB.
I am using an AT power supply and case. I was having problems
with not booting at startup, then sometimes rebooting for no reason,
and various blue screen of death errors and complete freeze screens.
We replaced the memory figuring that was bad, but it didnt seem to make any
difference. We replaced the motherboard and processor and the hard drive cable,
it boots up fine now, but still has the other problems. We also replaced
the processor fan thinking it was a heat problem but that didnt change
anything. I get VMM blue screens and VCACHE errors, and then explorer.exe freeze
errors, and once i got a mismanaged resources error, and still reboots for no reason. Please if there
is any advice you can offer let me know, Thanks,

Which model Epox board did you use? My guess is MVP3?

Clive
clive@digitalsky.co.za

I assemble and sell these things.

I am only a techncal user, whose been through a lot with the Win98SE question. I also have a AMDK6-2 running NT4.0 that is solid as a rock --only reboot when we have power outages.

Finally had to dump 98SE because of lockups... sometimes only using explorer and CPU is 100% (with 200meg RAM) Straight win98 works fine EXCEPT my sound chip (Cirrus) on the motherboard is no longer available. It was a less-than-optimal chip anyway, apparently, as I could not use it for speech to text transcription.

You might want to check thread on Win98SE Shutdown Problems.

-mcy

since you are using a VIA MVP3 board, I would recomend updating all the Chipset drivers, goto via.com.tw and download their 4-in-1 driver, just to be sure, also Win98SE as much as M$ likes to say its better, I'veheard more problems with SE, than I did with the original.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
Give this a try: boot in safe mode, press the startmenu click run type "regedit" click the plus next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" now highlight "Enum" and click press DELETE on your keyboard. restart windows and it will re-install all of your hardware. (if does not do this automaticly you will have to go to the control panel and use the add new hardware wiz. to find everything.) to me it sounds like a system/driver conflict so redoing all the windows hardware settings should fix it.

good luck.........
