Okay I have a Windows 98 and trying to connect to an all Windows 2003 Network.

All my workstations are 2000 and XP, which connect to the network fine.

On my W2k3 Domain Controller I have only DNS server running for those workstations. When I try to connect my Windows 98 machine to it I get and error. When the user logs onto the domain, I get a message saying 'No Domain Server was availble to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to tsome network resources.'

I then proceeded by install WINS on my Windows 2003 DC and then tried again. Now the workstation was able to successfully to logon. Sound good right!! but that's not what I want.

I'm trying to run an all TCP/IP network. I wanted DNS to authentic all my workstations include the Windows 98 workstation. Is there a way I get get this Win98 workstation running with only DNS, so I can turn off WINS?

Have you tried installing the AD client for Win 95/98 which can be found on the windows 2000 server cd under clients

Phil

No, you cannot, win9x needs WINS for name resolution. If you have only one win98 macine you can use LMHOSTS file, for more it is bad idea. AD client is not for name resolution and will not help.

By the way by allowing a 98 client on your network kiss your security goodbye too.

9X clients arn't supported in 2003...they were in 2k

MCSE 2K - MCSA 2K - NET+ - A+
