We are having problems connecting NT4 shares to Windows 98 boxes.

It seems that XP and Windows 2000 map these same drives OK. The shares are being accessed over a leased line. One site has the NT4 box the other site needs to be able to map the drives on 98 PCs.

I think it may be something to do with gateways but Im not too sure.

Any advice would be well appreciated. Plus Id score some points with the CEO.

Thanks to everyone for contributing to these pages.

Questions...

1. What are the Gateways?
2. Are you trying to map the drives manually, or by a login script?
3. Can you even browse the NT server, or do a start>find>computer, and type in the server name, from the 98 machines?
4. Can you ping the NT server from the 98 machines?

Manually mapping the drive.
Can browse to, Find, UNC to the server.
Can ping Gateway.

SORRY thats supposed to be CANT BROWSE to, see or find the server.

Are you running WINS on the NT Server? If not, perhaps try creating an lmhosts file to test on the 98 machines...

You really are a star. We had no end of hassle trying to figure this one out.
