Win98, no internet and winsock problem

I have a Win98 pc and can't get on the internet. When I try to ping I get a "timed out" message. I'm thinking I have a winsock problem, but don't know where to start to correct it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, it was a new problem. We figured out that the person had zone alarm pro on the pc and configured it to the point that they couldn't even get online. Some people just don't get it. Thanks for helping.

Motto of this story is to check for zone alarm configurations first, if someone can't get on the internet at all.
