I have a NT network (12 stations + a server running winNT) and 2 computers running Win98 on the network. One of the win98 computers prompts for login on boot up (as I want it to), but the other simply load directly into window, and does not log on to the network.
I can log off, after it running, and it will then prompt and allow me to log onto the network.
I've tried to check setting between the two computers, and everything I can find is set the same (but I'm not really sure what to look for).
If anyone has some suggestions I would really appriciate it.

Hi,

Things to check ...

Default login is set to Microsoft client not windows family
You might even want to delete that from configuration.

check logon to NT Domain is ticked in Microsoft client properties, with the right domain name

check workgroup is set to right domain name on id tab

if you have done all of these already, I have experienced wonky network card/cables/drivers which connect/disconnect intermittantly, start with the cheapest/easiest here.

Goog luck

The default is set to Microsoft Client
Logon to Nt domain is checked, with the corrent domain name

Should the workgroup be the same name as the domain?

Yeah, fraid so

It won't let you browse your domain if you don't

Still not convinced that's your problem, but what the heck?
It's worth a shot.

I Can log off after initial bootup, then I get asked to logon.
With the correct password (incorrect one will not work) it will go bak into windows, but now its properly connected to the network. (all network connection work as I expect them to). It will work untill it shut off.
When you trun it back on it starts all over again.
