I get this message when I try to login to A Windows 2k domain from a Win 98 client.

"The domain password you supplied is not correct, or access to your logon server has been denied."

I don't know what is wrong, I have installed AD and setup DNS. DNS is pointing to itself, the SRV records are there, A records are there, NS records are there. NSLOOKUP appears to work and showing the right numbers and names. I have done everything, even uninstalled and reinstalled DNS but to no avail.

Thanks,

Winston

Is the win98 client a member of the workgroup or domain with the same name? (sorry about the dumb question)

What protocols have you bound to the card of the server and workstation?

In the workgroup section I have entered the domain name, abc.local

Protocols bound to workstation are TCP\IP, IPX and Netbui

Have you tried entering the NETBIOS domain name as opposed to the DNS domain name i.e. abc rather than abc.local ?

Does the person trying to logon have a valid username and Password? James Collins

Yes I have tried using the netbios domain name at the client logon prompt. A user is also setup in AD.

I do however have a Windows NT 4.0 standalone server and a Windows NT 3.51 that is also a standalone. The Windows NT 4.0 has it's own IP and has DNS pointed to the Windows 2000 server. the Windows Nt 3.51 acts as our DHCP and WINS server and the DNS is also pointed to the Windows 2000 server. I have disabled both the legacy servers thinking that this may cause some conflict but I still can't login with the Windows 98 client. Is there something special i need to do with the client?

I have run netdiag.exe and it reports that the DNS server is okay. Forward zone is setup but I have not setup the Reverse Zone. DNS appears to be setup correctly. I can ping using either IP address or domain name.

Is Windows 9x not designed to connect to a Windows 2000 server with AD installed?

Run DSClient.exe on the Win9x box from WIN2KSRV CDROM \Clients\Win9x

I've installed the DSClient and it still does not let me into the server. I have deleted the my user login and have created another one but still the same message "The domain password you supplied is not correct or access to your logon server has been denied"

This is getting frustrating.

The dsclient is not required and neither is NETBEUI however you may want to try loading NETBEUI on the server in an attempt to browse your network neighbourhood for the server share names. Load the IP stack on the client (this enables NETBIOS over TCP) and as long as you are a member of the workgroup or domain you should be able to browse and connect.

Try manually adding an IP address in the correct range and eliminate DHCP issues.

Try manually creating a machine account on the domain/AD for the machine name you are trying to connect with.

Thanks for all your help guys. I finally got it working. Well it was working all along there was something wrong with my Win98 client. tried another Win 98 workstation and all was smooth.

thank you

I have the same problem with all 95/98 clients (OK with NT & 2000). We upgraded NT4 pdc to win2000 and still have bdc un NT4. On client machine only admins can login, others get that error. Also wierd is that if usr has to change passwd on first login, he is prompted to do that, after what passwd prompt pops up again and login rises an error...
Can somebody give a clue?

To Maxod,
Could you explain waht did you to fix that issue?, What did you check, etc?

The issue was Zone Alarm (a personal firewall software from Zone Labs). It was loaded on the workstation that did not talk to the server. Once I removed it it was ok. I probably could have changed some settings in Zone Alarm but decided to uninstall it.

I'm having the same problem as Wano. All of my Windows 95 clients are getting the error "Domain Password Supplied is not correct or access to your logon server has been denied", all of my Windows 98 computers do not have any problem. I installed the DC Client, deleted *.pwl, disablepwdcaching=1 in registry

Please help ASAP I have a client that's waiting on me to get their business back up and running right NOW!

Thanks!

Win9x clients need to have the domain set to the NETBIOS domain name. Also under the Identification tab - make sure the workgroup is also set to the NETBIOS domain.

Doublecheck all machines that may have File and Print Sharing enabled to be sure that they haven't taken over as a Master Browser.

Also, check IP setup to make sure everything is operating in the same net/subnet range.

I did that, but thanks.. for some reason it seems I have to reset the passwords, even though I already did that. Looks like I'm getting it to work now.

I am getting the exact same thing several of these guys have gotten.

My win 98 clients can not login to my windows 2000 server, also any machines that have been upgraded from 98 to 2000 or XP

all original installed 2000 machines connect without a problem.
i have gotten this problem everytime i restart the server, normally i have been able to right click on network neighborhood and go into tcp/ip and then hit okay and everyone is able to login, however since my last reboot after adding two new ram chips to give me a total of 1.5 gigs i can not get them to login.

PLEASE HELP!!
