In the office, we have 5 PCs connected with Microsoft peer-to-peer networking. I installed a new WindowsXP machine to run as a data/backup server. I copied the data to the new server for all the other applications to get backed up every night.

Unfortunately, I am having trouble with a Windows program called Clarity OMS v2.02. This is basically a client database program. Currently, it runs fine from a Win98 peer-to-peer shared folder. Several PCs connect to the main Win98 PC who has the data shared. The main PC has the Clarity software installed in SERVER mode, while the others have it installed in CLIENT mode. Everyone can access the Clarity database simultaneously, and make changes at the same time.

With the Clarity SERVER mode software, I can open the database off the Shared WinXP server without any problems. But the software is written to only allow one SERVER Clarity software to open the satabase at a time.
When I try to connect to the Clarity database in CLIENT mode, an error comes up saying that the application cannot access the data folder, and to check permissions.
The CLIENT user can browse the Clarity data folders and files through the Windows Explorer, and I even gave administrator access to that user. The Clarity CLIENT mode just doesn't want to access the database.

The only thing I can think of is enabling simple sharing on the XP server and removing passwords on the accounts. I am leery of doing this because a LANModem is connected to the network.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If you've got simplified sharing turned off than XP acts like NT/2k when being accessed by win9x/ME machines (ie, you need accounts on XP machine with same user names/passwords as are used to login to win9x/ME machines)

Simplified sharing is turned off, and I have corresponding username/passwords for all users. Like I said, I can browse the Data folders and files that are needed. There is something Clarity just doesn't like.

check your file system is the xp system ntfs or fat32 this can cause problems

I have NTFS on the XP machine. I'll try enabling simple sharing to se if that does the trick.
