Does anyone know how to burn an XP Mode image file as a bootable CD?

My goal is to take the fully updated XP Mode image I have in Windows 7 and create a bootable CD to install XP on other machines - anyone know if this is possible?

I've looked around online, but haven't found anything real useful.

Thanks,
Steve

That would be illegal.

The XP Mode image is licensed only to run under your copy of Windows 7

Bummer.

I wasn't aware of that fact, but thanks for the enlightenment!

I would have thought that the XP Mode .vhd file (that you have created and used) can be used in any Virtual Machine that is running the Ultimate, Professional, or Enterprise edition of Windows 7? Once you have created the Windows Virtual XP Mode machine you could just point the new VM to the .vhd file that you wish to use. You can certainly use the basic downloaded .vhd file (Windows XP Mode base.vhd) in such a manner without legal problems.

BartPE has been around for years and can give you some help on running XP on any machine albeit a cut down version of XP.

You might be able to make use of BartPE (a mini XP self contained on a bootable CD and run from CD).

Yes, I should really have said 'under Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate' rather than just Windows 7.

As I understand it each Windows 7 Pro, Enterprise or Ultimate licence allows you to download - for free - one XP Mode .vhd containing a licenced virtual copy of XP. You can actually run that virtual machine on any PC that runs Windows Virtual PC, although I think you're only permitted to run it on the machine it's linked to.

Anyway, what the OP asked about wouldn't be possible even if it were permitted.

There is an interesting article in the latest (June 11) PC Pro (in the UK) regarding booting into the VHD natively by adding an entry to the boot loader.
It only works with Enterprise and Ultimate versions of Windows 7 apparently.
