Hi,
Our server is dual processor system running win2k server. No DC, No IIS, No DNS, No DHCP. We have a basic setup utilizing a peer to peer network. At random times the server will just restart itself. In the event log all I get is "event id: 6008 The previous system shutdown at 'time' on 'date' was unexpected". This is driving me crazy. Can anyone please help?

3 questions...

First: are you on a UPS? How's the power situation...

Second: In the services, is automatic updates set to automatic and started? if so, that will cause unexpected server reboots at random...

What antivirus do you have and are you sure it's up to date and functioning properly?

Based on my observation, if it tends to be a hardware problem 95% is either power supply or a motherboard :(.

Right click on My Computer, and select properties. On the advanced tab, check and see if the "Automatically Reboot" option is checked. If it is, uncheck it. Also, choose "Small Memory Dump", you don't need all the info from a large dump. Good luck.

Thanks to all who offered assistance to me in my time of need. Special thanks to GlenJohnson, I looked and Automatically Reboot was checked, I unchecked it and changed option to Small Dump. Rebooted and it has only been 1 day but no restart.

Thanks a million Glen.

It is happening again. Now it stops at the blue screen and I can actually see the error since it does not auto restart anymore. The error I get the most is:

Page_Fault_in_nonpaged_area.

I also get these two:
Kmode_exception_not_handled.
&
Irql_not_less_or_equal.

Ok I have this problem before it happens to 20 new Acer PC. I did a tweak, patch here and there. Reinstall all over again but to no avail, I bring in the vendor and they found out that it's the processor. They replace all 20 processor because it comes from the bad batch according to them and I don't care as long as they can solve the problem.

Why don't you ask your vendor to evaluate for you.
