does anyone know any way of bypassing this annoying little issue? or is it that complex that 32 megs of ram is needed to run it with any amount of speed? sad to admit I'm stilling running a 133mhz. with only 16megs ram. I'm going to upgrade. but waiting until I can get that awsome discount at work!.
Off the top of my head I can't think of an easy way around it but I think it would be painfully slow to run it on a 133 with only 16 Megs of RAM. It was bareable with a 166 with 128 Megs....PK

lol - I fixed the problem - went out and got a new system - those emachines (e366is) I know its not so upgradable - but for the deal - it doesn't matter. now - I'm just getting used to the new system first before I even atempt to install win2k. Gotta make sure I can get the drivers etc. I can't say I enjoy the modem that came with it etc. its a 'soft' modem - I'm so used to the v.90 analog technologie. I don't know if I can handle signing onto an ISP other then My own that only supports 56kflex - then My modem will turn instantly into that kind. kinda strange if ya ask Me. but ya really can't beat the deal. imho
By default you need 64MB of memory installed on the machine to install Windows 2000 Server, however this limitation can be removed.

Copy the Windows 2000 I386 installation directory to the drive.
Edit the file TXTSETUP.SIF located in the root of
the I386 structure
Search for RequiredMemory
Edit the line which allows you to change the amount of memory:
RequiredMemory=66584576
Save the file
Install as normal
The problem with this is that Windows 2000 Server will run so slow it's not even funny. Windows 2000 Professional requires 32MB of ram to run, but I recommend 64 or more. Same goes as Windows 2000 Server. Microsoft says you can run Windows 2000 on a system with a Pentium 166Mhz, but I ran it on a system with a 200Mhz processor, and it was very, very slow. I am running it on a 400Mhz system and it runs very fast, so I suppose that anything above 300Mhz will run pretty fast.
I have installed Windows 2000 professional on three identical machines except for the amount of ram and found huge differences. The machines are PII 266's with 32,64 and 96 megs. The 32 ran extremely slow, but found that the 64 ran well and fast enough for most things and the 96 moved extremely well with no problems.
