We have a peer-to-peer network running with a WinNT4.0 Server machine, several Win95/98 machines and one Win2Kpro machine.

When we start up the Win2KPro machine, we log in with a user name and password that are valid on the WinNT server.

On the Win2kPro machine, under NetworkPlaces, I can see every machine except the local machine.

On the WinNT Server, under Network Neighborhood, I can see every machine except the Win2KPro Machine.

I can ping the Win2KPro Machine from the WinNT machine, but I can't do anything else.

We are using TCP/IP, the IP addresses, subnets, and gateways are all correct. We have also entered a workgroup name, and it is the same for all machines.

We need to able to browse to this machine, and we need to be able to share folders on the Win2KPro machine with the entire network. What do we need to do?

Check in advanced properties of TCP/IP and make sure netbios is enabled. Also make sure that you can see the computer on the server using server manager.

In a peer-to-peer configuration, EVERY user trying to gain access to resources on the win2k machine will have to have a valid account on that machine. The only way around this would be to enable the guest account on the 2k machine to allow anonymous access.

the best idea would be to set up a domain on the nt server. then add all stations to that domain.

OK, thanks for the advice. We have 160 LANs and we don't have them set up as domains, so for the sake of consistency, we're not going to make this one a domain.

the GUEST idea didn't work.

How about this, one thing I didn't mention is that the WinNT server is logged in by Administrator, with a password. These servers are all set to autologin this way. That being the case, how do I get this user authorized on the Win2Kpro box?

wow, why do you have all these lans but no domain, it would make life ALOT easyer for you if you did. i have set a couple of win2k boxes to autologon but forgot how to do it now, try for the reg frag to do it thats where i got mine from.

You'll need to set the Administrator password on 2k box to the same value as the one on the NT Server
