Hi All,

I have a machine with outlook 2k installed on it accessing a .pst file located on a server. The pst is about 250mb. From time time the user, while using outlook will hang causing the whole machine to freeze. Forcing me to reboot. All the patches and updates has been applied on both the OS and Office 2k. At first I thought it was a networking issue. I patched him onto another free jack and changed the cable just in case. Same thing =( Right now I moved his .pst file to his local machine and started the backup program on the local to run daily. (uploading the .pst to the server) So far it seems ok. But I would rather not leave it the way it is. I'm wondering what is causing this problem. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Hello,

Why to use .pst file. Because of it, you have all your problems. Use normal connection to exch. server. and backup an exchange server storages but not separate .pst files. Futhermore from the security reason it 's much better.
Than bigger will be each user's .pst file than more problems you'll have.

Thanks for the reply. This is where office politics comes in. On the exchange server there is a quota of 100mb. The senior sys. admin is pretty firm on this. The user group wants more space and are pretty firm on this too, manager included also. So not to ruffle any feathers I opted to switch them over to .pst to see how things will work out. People warned me about having .pst and the problems that will occur with it (like right now :( ) I'm trying to make this work. Or is this just a lost cause when dealing with .pst?

Hello,

Ofcourse .pst files also is a workable stuff, but as you can see it's slow, when client takes it from network, unreliable and the biggest weak - unsecure. So, it's better to buy additional storage space for an Exch server.

250 MB through the Network is the problem ,, because I think of course that caused the problem ,,
.pst is not the problem ,, and u can check this by yourself if u replace the old .pst file with another with less size like 50 MB ..
